Capcom has officially announced Resident Evil Veronica, a full remake of the 2000 survival horror game Resident Evil Code: Veronica. The game was revealed during Summer Game Fest 2026 and is set to launch next year on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC.
The reveal trailer shows Claire Redfield arriving at a worn-down Paris apartment, shown from a first-person perspective similar to how Grace Ashcroft’s segments were handled in Resident Evil Requiem. A kind elderly woman is shown looking after Claire’s brother and even slips in a boulder joke, a nod to a long-running fan gag tied to the series. Things take a turn when the woman goes missing and Claire is kidnapped by someone who steps in her place.

The announcement comes off the back of Capcom’s previous remake, Resident Evil 4, which launched in 2023. The company has been on a steady run of revisiting its classic Resident Evil titles, and Code: Veronica has long been one of the most notable entries still waiting for that treatment.
The original Code: Veronica first launched in 2000 on the Sega Dreamcast. It was later re-released as Code: Veronica X on PlayStation 2 in 2001, which added new cinematics, and then again in 2011 as a high-definition remaster for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. Both re-releases kept the original tank-style controls and did not include gameplay changes. After those versions, the game has only been accessible through backward compatibility on Xbox and PlayStation platforms, making this remake a significant moment for the series.

The game holds a specific place in the Resident Evil story. It takes place after the events of Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3: Nemesis, though it was actually released after Nemesis. More importantly, it serves as a key bridge in the storyline, setting up the conflict between Chris Redfield and Albert Wesker that plays a central role in Resident Evil 5 and, to a lesser extent, Resident Evil 6.
