Santa Monica Studio pulled back the curtain on the next mainline God of War game during a recent State of Play. The new title is called God of War Laufey, and for the first time in the series, players will step into the shoes of Faye, the mother of Atreus and wife of Kratos.
The game picks up after Faye’s death, with her waking up unexpectedly in a mysterious realm called the Everywhen. This place serves as the afterlife of the gods, where deities from different mythologies have ended up after their deaths. Faye soon learns that the plans she had set in place to protect Kratos and Atreus are in danger, pushing her to fight her way through this strange world to get back to her family.
The Everywhen is described as the origin and final destination of all magic, a realm where gods and creatures from across various mythologies exist together, often in conflict. Two of the gods Faye will face there are Sekhmet and Begtse, both of whom are shown to be hostile toward her.
Deborah Ann Woll, who previously voiced Faye in God of War Ragnarok, is back to lead the cast. Joining her are two new companions Faye meets shortly after arriving in the Everywhen. Jack Quaid plays Phranque, described as a curious cosmic cube who is fiercely protective of his friends. Perlina Lau plays Rue, an enchanted ribbon guardian whose job is to keep a powerful sword out of the wrong hands.

The studio says Faye’s combat is built around speed, fluid movement, and constant pressure on enemies. Players can move between ground and air without breaking the flow of combat, giving her a wide range of offensive and defensive options. Santa Monica Studio describes the approach as combining the movement style of the Greek era games with the world-building and character focus of the Norse saga.
Faye’s main weapon is a sword she earns the right to use after gaining Rue’s trust. Alongside it, her abilities as the Golden Hand of the Jotnar play a big role in combat. In the Everywhen, her soul-based powers are amplified, allowing her to knock the soul out of an enemy’s body and use it in various ways during a fight, including launching it into other enemies to open up combo opportunities.

God of War Laufey is available for wishlisting now on the PlayStation Store. More details are expected to be shared as the release date will be revealed at a future date.
