Valve has set up a reservation queue for the Steam Controller after the device sold out rapidly and left many buyers frustrated.
The controller went on sale through Valve’s storefront on Monday, but the rush of buyers caused site issues almost immediately, with many users running into error messages when trying to complete their purchase. Within about 30 minutes, stock had already run dry in some regions. As of now, the controller is sold out across every major market. Scalpers have since listed units on eBay for up to three times the original price.
In response, Valve announced changes aimed at making the buying process fairer and keeping resellers at bay.

Starting Friday, May 8 at 10am PT (1pm ET / 6pm BST), users can join a reservation queue on Steam. When stock becomes available, order emails will be sent out in the same order that reservations were made. Once a user receives that email, they will have a 72-hour window to complete their purchase.
“Steam Controller launched on May 4th, and while we were happy to see such a high level of interest, the experience for a lot of you trying to buy it was incredibly frustrating,” Valve said in a message to users.
A few rules apply to the queue. Each user is limited to one reservation, and anyone who has already bought a Steam Controller will not be able to reserve a second one. To cut down on scalping, accounts must be in good standing on Steam and must have made at least one purchase on the platform before April 27, 2026.
Valve also noted that stock availability will differ by region. The US and Canada will be the first to see reservations fulfilled, starting next week. The UK, EU, and Australia are expected to follow in the weeks after that.
