Square Enix has officially opened pre-registration for Dragon Quest Smash/Grow, giving players an early chance to sign up ahead of its planned 2026 launch. The upcoming mobile title will be available on both iOS via the App Store and Android through Google Play.
A New Roguelite Take on Dragon Quest

Positioned as a fresh spin on the long-running Dragon Quest formula, Smash/Grow leans into roguelite design, blending fast-paced combat with constantly shifting gameplay elements. Rather than following a traditional structure, the game emphasizes replayability, where each run offers a different combination of abilities, encounters, and strategies.
Fast-Paced Combat and Dynamic Systems

At its core, the game focuses on action-driven battles where players cut through waves of monsters before unleashing the series’ signature Coup de Grâce finishers. Combat is designed to be quick and responsive, making it more accessible while still retaining the identity fans expect from a Dragon Quest title.
A key system driving this variety is the Blessings mechanic. These are randomized enhancements that can be mixed and matched during each run, reshuffling between stages and forcing players to adapt their playstyle on the fly. Combined with the unpredictable structure of roguelite progression, no two dungeon runs are expected to play out the same.
Vocations and Character Progression

The game also brings back classic Dragon Quest Vocations, allowing players to build and customize their party. Beyond simple levelling, each vocation features its own upgrade tree, adding more depth to how characters evolve over time and encouraging experimentation across different builds.
Story and World

In terms of narrative, Smash/Grow introduces an original story centered around mysterious rifts appearing across the world. Players will venture into these dungeons alongside a mechanical companion named Roly, working to restore balance while uncovering the secrets behind the growing chaos.
Cooperative Play and Additional Content

Multiplayer is also part of the experience, with cooperative quests supporting up to four players. These missions allow teams to take on tougher challenges together, adding a social layer to the otherwise run-based gameplay loop.
Outside of the main progression, the game includes additional modes designed to extend playtime. Players can test their builds in high-pressure gauntlets, face powerful bosses in specialized encounters, and explore a variety of side content scattered throughout the game.
Pre-Registration Now Live

With pre-registration now available, Square Enix is positioning Dragon Quest Smash/Grow as a more dynamic, replayable take on the franchise. As it heads toward its 2026 release, the game looks set to offer both longtime fans and newcomers a different way to experience Dragon Quest on mobile platforms.
