Nintendo has released system update version 22.0.0 for both the Nintendo Switch 2 and the original Nintendo Switch. The bigger of the two updates lands on the Switch 2, which gets a range of new features most notably a new “Handheld Mode Boost” option.
The Switch 2’s update introduces Handheld Mode Boost, a new setting found under Nintendo Switch Software Handling in the System menu. When turned on, compatible Switch games will run as if the console were docked in TV Mode, which can result in improved visuals while playing in handheld. Nintendo notes that certain functionality may be affected when this option is enabled, so users are encouraged to check the on-device description for more details. Not all software is compatible with the feature.

The original Switch receives a smaller update with version 22.0.0. It shares a few changes with the Switch 2 update: the updated virtual game card text and animations, the ability to save private notes about friends on your Friend List (also requiring Nintendo Switch App version 3.3.0 or higher), and the new Parental Controls PIN notification (requiring app version 2.4.0 or higher). The update also includes general system stability improvements.
Both updates are available now. Switch and Switch 2 users can download version 22.0.0 through the System Update option in their console’s System Settings.
