The Pokemon Company has announced that Pokemon FireRed Version and Pokemon LeafGreen Version are heading to the Nintendo Switch on February 27, priced at $19.99 each. Pre-orders for both games are already live on the Nintendo eShop.
Originally released on the Game Boy Advance, both titles bring players to the Kanto region, where the goal is to catch Pokemon, earn Gym badges, and become the Pokemon League Champion. The Switch versions are digital exclusives and include the Sevii Islands, an area where additional Pokemon can be found. Players can also use the Pokemon Wireless Club feature to trade, battle, and chat with others via local wireless, though additional games and systems are required for multiplayer and are sold separately.

Pokemon HOME support is also confirmed to be coming to both games at a later date, which will allow players to transfer their caught and trained Pokemon to the shared storage service.
One thing worth noting before purchasing is how language options are handled. Because these releases are meant to replicate how the games were originally distributed, there are no in-game language settings. Instead, each language is sold as its own separate version. In North America, the games are available in English-only, French-only, and Spanish-only editions. In PAL regions, buyers can choose from English-only, French-only, Italian-only, German-only, and Spanish-only editions.

The Pokemon Company advises players to double-check the language of the version they are buying before completing their purchase. Both games are available to pre-order now on the Nintendo eShop across North America, Japan, and PAL regions.
