Nintendo and Monolith Soft have officially announced Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition, and the enhanced version is available now digitally on Nintendo Switch 2. A physical edition is scheduled to launch at select retailers on April 16.
Players who already own the original Nintendo Switch version can access the upgraded release by purchasing an Upgrade Pack for the Nintendo Switch 2 version, allowing existing users to transition seamlessly to the enhanced edition.
Enhanced Resolution and Performance on Nintendo Switch 2

The Nintendo Switch 2 Edition introduces notable visual and performance improvements designed to take advantage of the new hardware. In TV mode, the game supports up to 4K resolution at up to 60 frames per second. In handheld mode, it runs at up to 1080p resolution while also targeting up to 60 frames per second.
Given the scale of its environments and the density of on-screen combat, the improved frame rate and sharper image quality help deliver a more fluid and immersive experience. From sprawling plains to towering alien structures, Mira benefits significantly from the technical upgrades.
A Sci-Fi RPG Set on the Planet Mira

In Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition, humanity faces extinction after Earth’s destruction in the year 2054. A colony ship carrying survivors escapes into space, only to crash-land on the mysterious planet Mira. Players assume the role of a customizable protagonist who joins the BLADE organization, working to secure humanity’s survival in an unfamiliar and hostile world.
The game combines open-world exploration with real-time, action-oriented combat. Players can execute a wide variety of special attacks and abilities while facing enemies of different sizes and threat levels. A defining feature of the experience is the Skell—powerful mechanized units that can transform into vehicles, take flight, and unleash devastating attacks in battle. However, earning the right to pilot a Skell requires proving oneself within BLADE, reinforcing the game’s progression structure.
Online Squad Features and Cooperative Play

Beyond the main campaign, Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition includes online functionality that allows players to form squads of up to four members. Together, they can complete objectives such as collecting specific items or defeating designated enemies. Special online assignments also offer opportunities to face formidable foes for in-game rewards.
Players can additionally recruit the avatars of other users into their main story party, blending asynchronous multiplayer elements into the single-player adventure.

With upgraded performance, online features, and a vast science-fiction setting, Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition stands as a major RPG offering early in the Nintendo Switch 2 lifecycle.
