Konami has shared new details on Silent Hill: Townfall during the latest State of Play, offering a deeper look at its first-person gameplay, enemy encounters, and a new device that reimagines one of the series’ most iconic tools.
Originally announced in 2022, the project is being developed by Screen Burn Interactive in collaboration with Konami. Despite being a smaller studio, Screen Burn has taken its time crafting what it describes as a refined and narrative-driven entry in the Silent Hill franchise.
A New Town, A New Perspective

Silent Hill: Townfall introduces players to a brand-new setting within the series’ universe. This time, the story unfolds through a fully first-person perspective. According to the developers, this shift supports the game’s narrative ambitions, environmental storytelling, and puzzle design.
Players explore richly detailed environments while searching for clues and solving tactile, story-driven puzzles. The first-person viewpoint enhances immersion, ensuring that every interaction feels immediate and personal.
The CRTV: An Evolution of the Classic Radio

One of the most notable additions is the “CRTV,” a handheld pocket television that evolves the franchise’s signature radio mechanic. In past Silent Hill titles, the radio emitted static to warn players of nearby threats. The CRTV builds on that concept.
The device not only alerts players to danger but also allows protagonist Simon Ordell to detect enemies through environmental interference. Additionally, it captures cryptic signals scattered across the town, revealing narrative fragments and guiding players through key challenges.
Inspired by retro technology and VHS-era aesthetics, the CRTV blends old-school hardware with modern design techniques. As a result, it becomes both a storytelling tool and a strategic gameplay mechanic.
Combat, Stealth, and Survival

Combat in Silent Hill: Townfall emphasizes tension and vulnerability. Players can use melee and ranged weapons when necessary, but the developers stress that fighting is not always the best solution.
Instead, survival often depends on stealth, environmental awareness, and smart use of the CRTV. Enemies react dynamically, tracking players through sound and movement if too much attention is drawn. Players can run, hide, distract, or engage directly, adapting their strategy as situations evolve.
This flexible encounter design aims to create horror-focused gameplay where fear stems not only from combat, but from uncertainty and pursuit.
Leveraging PS5 Immersion

The game also takes advantage of the PlayStation 5’s hardware capabilities. DualSense controller features enhance immersion by adding weight to combat and amplifying environmental tension. Subtle feedback effects make stalking enemies feel closer and more immediate, reinforcing the game’s oppressive atmosphere.
A Refined Silent Hill Experience

While Silent Hill: Townfall differs in story and setting from entries like Silent Hill 2 and Silent Hill f, the producers emphasize that it retains the core identity of the series. A strong narrative, challenging puzzles, and moments that demand quick thinking remain central pillars of the experience.
With wishlists now open on the PlayStation Store, Silent Hill: Townfall positions itself as a sophisticated and atmospheric addition to the franchise. More details on its release are expected in the coming months.
