Respawn Entertainment has announced that Apex Legends will stop working on the Nintendo Switch starting August 4, 2026, when Season 30 begins. The battle royale game first came out on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC in 2019. It was later brought to the Nintendo Switch in 2021. Now, after several years on the platform, the original Switch version is coming to an end.
Season 29 will be the last update for the Switch version of the game. After that, players won’t be able to access Apex Legends on the original Switch console. However, the game will continue to be available on Nintendo’s new Switch 2 system.
Hey legends, we want to share an important update about Apex Legends on the Nintendo Switch.

Until the shutdown date, Switch players can keep playing normally. They can jump into matches, earn rewards, and buy in-game currency just like before. The game will work exactly as it has been until August 4.
Players who want to keep their progress have some important details to know. While Apex Legends supports cross-progression between most platforms, there’s a catch with in-game currency. Any Apex Coins purchased or earned on Switch will stay tied to Nintendo systems only. This means if you move to PlayStation, Xbox, or PC, you’ll lose your coin balance. However, items you’ve already bought with those coins will carry over to other platforms.

Switch players have two options to keep their Apex Coins. They can either spend their coins before August 4 and then move to another platform, or they can upgrade to the Switch 2 version, where their coin balance will remain available.
Respawn explained that the decision comes down to wanting to provide a quality experience. The studio said that the Nintendo Switch 2 offers better performance for the game as a handheld option.

“Thanks to Nintendo’s investment in the Nintendo Switch 2, the platform offers a great handheld experience for Apex Legends,” Respawn said in their announcement. The developer thanked the Nintendo community for their support since the game launched on Switch. Apex Legends will remain available on all other platforms, including PlayStation, Xbox, PC, and the Switch 2.
