UPDATE:
Brown Dust 2’s project director, Lee Jun-Hee has announced that any plans to change any of the characters has been scrapped. Every design element and gameplay will be kept as is, and you can read on their update here.
NEOWIZ has officially confirmed that Brown Dust 2 will undergo censorship changes affecting multiple outfits, cutscenes, and side content, despite previous statements suggesting otherwise. The announcement follows community speculation and has now been verified through an official developer post. Many players believe the decision aims to better align the game with Steam’s content policies, especially as the title continues to expand its presence on PC.
Released in June 2023, Brown Dust 2 is a 2D turn-based RPG available on Android and Windows through Google Play Games on PC. The game has built a strong following, surpassing one million downloads and maintaining a high user rating. Its appeal largely comes from console-style presentation, high-end 2D visuals, Live2D character animations, and a distinctive 3×4 grid-based combat system that emphasizes positioning and pre-planned attacks.
Confirmed Content Changes

The newly announced censorship affects a wide range of existing character content. Several skill cutscenes will receive edits, including White Pure Blessing Refithea, Nature’s Claw Rou, White Cat Rou, New Hire Seir, and Demon’s Daughter Seir. Teresse’s medical outfit and its related cutscenes will also change, alongside content tied to her Fated Guest version.
One of the more notable removals involves the “slap slap pop” minigame. The developers confirmed its full removal, citing concerns related to the objectification of women. This decision goes beyond visual adjustments and directly alters playable content, which has sparked strong reactions across the community.
Impact on Future Updates

The developers have made it clear that these changes mark a broader shift rather than a one-time adjustment. All future Fated Guest stories and character interactions will follow the same revised content guidelines. This means upcoming narrative content will avoid similar themes or presentations that could conflict with platform standards.
Liberta’s prestige costume has also been delayed as part of this review process. The developers pointed to concerns about her youthful appearance, despite her canonical age being 21, as a factor in the delay.
A Successful Game at a Crossroads

Brown Dust 2 currently enjoys a strong position in the mobile RPG space. Players frequently praise its generous gacha systems, lack of stamina restrictions, frequent events, and polished audiovisual presentation. The game recently celebrated its 2.5th anniversary with major campaigns, including hundreds of free draws and new limited costumes.
However, the censorship announcement has reignited long-standing debates around creative freedom, global platform compliance, and fan service in gacha games. While some players understand the need to meet Steam’s requirements, others see the move as a reversal of the developers’ earlier promises.
As Brown Dust 2 continues to receive updates and seasonal content, these changes signal a clear shift in direction. Whether this will affect player retention or long-term identity remains to be seen, but it undeniably marks a significant turning point for the game.
