Goichi “Suda51” Suda, the executive director behind Romeo is a Dead Man, has publicly confirmed that the upcoming game contains no generative AI content. The announcement came in a recent post on X, where Suda51 stated: “This game contains no AI-generated stuff whatsoever, so please rest easy on that front and go ahead and wishlist it!”
The statement comes at a time when AI use in video games is increasing, including within the Japanese game industry. Suda51 joins other industry veterans like Final Fantasy composer Nobuo Uematsu and Silent Hill series producer Motoi Okamoto in speaking out about the importance of human creativity in game development.
We’re looking into what we can do to make a Switch 2 version happen.
Also, this game contains no AI-generated stuff whatsoever, so please rest easy on that front and go ahead and wishlist it!

Romeo is a Dead Man takes an interesting approach to managing development costs. Instead of using traditional AAA-style 3D cutscenes throughout, the game includes manga-style moving panel cutscenes in some sections. The game also features pixel art gameplay segments set inside spaceships. All of these visual elements were created by human artists—the panel cutscenes were illustrated by Grasshopper Manufacture concept artists Tadayuki Nomaru and Ren Yamazaki, while the spaceship sections were developed with pixel animation artist Hattori Graphics.
In the same X post, Suda51 also revealed that the team is “looking into what we can do to make a Switch 2 version happen.” The game was originally announced for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. A Nintendo Switch 2 port would allow Grasshopper Manufacture to reach the platform’s audience.

Romeo is a Dead Man is scheduled to release on February 11, 2026 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam.
