Tarsier Studios has announced that its upcoming co-op horror game Reanimal will launch on PlayStation 5 on February 13, 2026. Pre-orders are now live and include a pair of exclusive masks, Foxhead and Muttonhead, offering players a unique way to engage with the game’s dark world. Additionally, a free demo is now available on Steam, allowing players to experience a taste of the horror ahead.
Dave Mervik, Narrative Director, Tarsier Studios
Dave Mervik, Narrative Director at Tarsier Studios, explained that Reanimal is a co-op horror adventure coming soon to PS5, centered on a group of orphans whose relationships are strained by the dark environment they grew up in. Players take control of The Boy and The Girl, who meet early in the game and set out in a boat to rescue their missing friends—Hood, Bucket, and Bandage.

Along the way, they navigate dangerous locations and confront terrifying monsters. Although the characters initially approach the world and each other with caution due to their complicated past, cooperation and friendship ultimately guide their journey.
Play VideoReanimal Out Feb 13, 2026
Over the past year, Tarsier Studios brought Reanimal to Gamescom and Tokyo Game Show, letting players experience the game firsthand. The reactions exceeded expectations, as players screamed in terror and delight while working together to survive.

These responses reinforced the studio’s vision of “Scared Together”, showing that fear becomes more immersive when shared with others. For those who want an early taste, the free Steam demo lets players explore part of the world and try surviving the horrors in co-op before the full release.
Pre-Orders and Exclusive Masks
As the release approaches, pre-orders are now open. Every pre-order unlocks two masks: Foxhead and Muttonhead. Players can wear them on either character, adding both style and narrative depth.

Tarsier’s experience designing hats for LittleBigPlanet informs these creations, but here the tone is darker. Masks in Reanimal are not just accessories—they convey story and theme, enhancing immersion in the game’s world of loss, violence, and shared fear.
Masks, Storytelling, and Environmental Detail
Tarsier Studios emphasizes environmental storytelling, and masks contribute to this. Artists start by sketching ideas tied to the game’s core themes, refining each until it meets the Tarsier Quality Bar.

The Foxhead and Muttonhead masks stood out because their predator-prey dynamic mirrors the story. These masks reflect the burdens of the protagonists and the world they inhabit, proving that small details can carry meaningful narrative weight.
Exploration and Secrets Await
Players who explore Reanimal’s world will find hidden lore, story snippets, and some of Tarsier’s most unsettling masks. Wearing the masks does not guarantee safety, but it helps players feel part of the story.

The game rewards curiosity, attention to detail, and teamwork, making the co-op experience both terrifying and deeply engaging. The Steam demo also gives players a chance to discover secrets and practice teamwork before the full PS5 launch. For more updates on the game, follow their official X account.
