Square Enix has confirmed that the Nintendo Switch 2 version of Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade will be larger than initially reported. The game launches alongside the Xbox Series X/S version on January 22, 2026. Switch 2 owners will need plenty of storage to enjoy it.

A Bigger Game Than Expected
Initial reports suggested the Switch 2 version would require 88GB, making it the largest game on the console at the time. Square Enix later updated the figures on Twitter. The standard edition will now take 90GB to 95GB, while the Digital Deluxe edition could require up to 99GB. This sets a new record for the largest Switch 2 game.

For perspective, 99GB uses nearly 38% of the Switch 2’s 256GB internal storage. Players can expand storage, but most users have not done so. File sizes have grown steadily in the industry, and Switch 2 is now facing these larger AAA game ports.
How It Compares to Other Nintendo Games

Even Nintendo’s first-party titles have grown in size. Mario Kart World and Donkey Kong Bananza stayed under 30GB. Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment reached 45GB. While still smaller than Final Fantasy VII Remake, it shows that ambitious ports now demand much more space.
Physical Edition Considerations
The physical edition of Final Fantasy VII Remake on Switch 2 will use a game-key card. Nintendo’s standard 64GB cards would have required splitting the game across two cards. This could have mirrored the original three-disc release. However, the cost likely prevented this. Players will need enough internal or expandable storage to play the full game.

With its massive size, Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade is one of the most anticipated releases of 2026. It also highlights the storage challenges Switch 2 owners may face. Whether digital or physical, fans can prepare to dive into Midgar for an unforgettable RPG experience. For more updates on the game, follow their official X account.
