Rockstar Explains the Delay
Rockstar shared an update on November 6, explaining the reason behind the new date.
“We are sorry for adding additional time to what we realize has been a long wait, but these extra months will allow us to finish the game with the level of polish you have come to expect and deserve,” the studio said.

The message thanked fans for their patience and support. It also teased the sprawling state of Leonida and a return to modern-day Vice City, giving players a glimpse of what’s ahead.
Originally planned for Fall 2025, the game was later moved to May 2026, before settling on November 2026. Rockstar didn’t go into detail about the cause, but emphasized its goal to meet its own high standards.
Take-Two Shares Slip After the Announcement
The delay immediately affected Take-Two Interactive, Rockstar’s parent company. Its shares dropped by more than 10%, losing roughly $27 per share in after-hours trading.

The fall came even after Take-Two delivered its strongest second quarter ever, reporting $1.96 billion in net bookings. The success came from major titles such as NBA 2K26, Borderlands 4, and Mafia: The Old Country.
Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick said he’s confident in the new launch date.
“We wanted to give Rockstar the right amount of time to polish the title and make sure it can be the very best it can be,” Zelnick told IGN. “When competitors rush unfinished games to market, bad things happen.”
Rockstar Focuses on Quality

Fans expressed mixed feelings about the news. Some voiced frustration, while others applauded Rockstar’s decision to take its time. The studio’s track record supports that choice — both GTA V and Red Dead Redemption 2 were delayed yet launched to critical acclaim.

Set in Leonida, a fictional state inspired by Florida, GTA 6 returns players to modern-day Vice City. Rockstar promises a vast open world, dense detail, and gameplay that pushes the series forward.
The longer wait may frustrate fans, but Rockstar’s decision reflects its dedication to quality. After more than a decade since GTA V, Grand Theft Auto VI could become one of the most ambitious games ever created. For more updates, on the game be sure to follow their official X account.
