One Punch Man Season 3 director Shinpei Nagai has deactivated his official X account after enduring persistent online harassment. In a statement shared before deleting his profile, Nagai explained that the toxic environment surrounding his posts had begun to affect both his mental health and the morale of the production team.
He revealed that some followers had been twisting his words, attempting to provoke him into violating NDAs, and even profiting from online outrage. Despite his efforts to communicate sincerely with fans, Nagai admitted that the constant hostility made continuing on social media impossible. As a result, he chose to remove himself from the situation completely.
“Unforgivable Behavior” Toward Creators and Staff

In his final message, Nagai condemned those exploiting the struggles of creators and the anime’s production challenges for personal gain. He called such actions “unforgivable,” emphasizing that they harm not only the creators but also the One Punch Man community as a whole.
“Honestly, this is taking a toll on my mental health, and it only brings negatives to the work, the staff, and the original creators,” he wrote. Moreover, Nagai stressed that the genuine fans — the ones who supported the project with kindness — were the most affected by the toxic behavior of a small group of individuals.
No Plans to Return to Social Media

Nagai concluded by confirming that he would permanently delete his X account and had no intention of returning to social media in the future. Furthermore, he apologized to fans who had engaged with him respectfully, expressing deep gratitude for their support and enthusiasm.
“I cannot overlook actions that degrade the work itself,” he said. “To the fans who have been truly kind to me, I want to express my gratitude and apologies. It was truly enjoyable.” Ultimately, Nagai’s decision sheds light on a growing issue in the anime industry which is the rising cases of online harassment and the severe mental health toll it takes on creators.
