The long-awaited anime adaptation of Suikoden, Konami’s classic JRPG series, is finally on its way. This time, the game’s original creators are taking a major role in the project. Titled Suikoden: The Anime, the series will air in 2026 and will adapt the story of Suikoden II, the most celebrated entry in the franchise.
Unlike most game adaptations handled by outside studios, this production is managed internally by Konami Animation, a new studio founded in 2024. The in-house setup allows the original developers to shape the anime’s direction rather than simply approve it from afar.
Beyond a Simple Adaptation

Series producer Rui Naito explained to Dengeki Online that the development team is working directly with professional anime staff. “We aren’t just acting as supervisors,” he said. “We’re helping decide how to capture what makes the game special in animation form.”
Instead of recreating the game scene by scene, the team aims to highlight Suikoden II’s strongest elements. Its political intrigue, emotional storytelling, and ensemble cast will take centre stage, appealing to both loyal fans and newcomers alike.
Old Voices, New Perspectives

Konami has also reunited several voice actors from Suikoden’s drama CDs, first released more than twenty years ago. Composer Koji Nakamura is rearranging the game’s original score for the anime, giving familiar melodies a fresh touch. The protagonist will appear as a fully voiced and named character for the first time, adding new emotional weight to the story.
Director Yuzo Sato shared that the adaptation will introduce new perspectives and unexpected storytelling angles. He hinted that the anime will take creative risks while still respecting the source material’s heart.
A Return to Suikoden’s Soul

Producing the anime in-house gives the project a strong sense of trust between Konami’s animation division and the original development team. Rather than a simple retelling, Suikoden: The Anime seeks to capture the spirit that made the games beloved while introducing its world to a new generation.
Suikoden: The Anime is set to premiere in 2026, marking a long-awaited revival of one of JRPG history’s most cherished series.
