GPS navigation app Waze has added Sonic the Hedgehog as a new sidekick character, giving users the option to have the speedy video game icon guide them during their drives. Sidekicks in Waze are celebrity voices that replace the app’s standard navigation voice. To use the new feature, users need to open the app, go to their sidekick settings, and turn on the Sonic the Hedgehog option.
Once activated, Sonic will give driving directions with his own style. According to Waze, users will hear lines like “alright, let’s roll, keep your eyes on the road, never know when a loop-de-loop or spike trap will be in the way” and “turn right, excellent handling, no notes from me whatsoever.”

The collaboration goes beyond just voice navigation. Users can also change their in-app car icon to the Speedster Lightning car from Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds, and switch their avatar to a Sonic face that other Waze users will see.
“Get ready to feel unstoppable because Sonic the Hedgehog is taking you on the drive of a lifetime with Waze,” Waze said in a statement.
“Starting today, you can select Sega’s iconic character, Sonic the Hedgehog, as your personal hype man on the road.”
This addition is part of the Racing Around the World campaign, where Sonic Team is marking the upcoming 35th anniversary of Sonic through various events and partnerships. The campaign also includes a multi-year partnership with British motor racing team McLaren Racing, which was announced in June.
