Xbox wrapped up their Tokyo Game Show 2025 broadcast with a major focus on Japan, revealing new games and updates that celebrate Japanese culture and gaming. The presentation featured 25 different games, ranging from major first-party titles to exciting partnerships with developers across Asia and beyond.

The show highlighted Xbox’s growing relationship with Japanese developers and its commitment to bringing diverse gaming experiences to players worldwide. From racing through Japan’s iconic landscapes to battling supernatural forces with traditional ninja skills, the broadcast offered something for every type of gamer.

Major Announcements from Xbox Game Studios

Forza Horizon 6 was the show’s biggest reveal, confirming Japan as the setting for the next racing game coming in 2026. The teaser showed Mount Fuji, cherry blossoms, and a mix of urban and natural environments. The game will be available on Game Pass at launch and will come to PlayStation 5 after its initial release. Players can already wishlist the game on Xbox and Steam.

Ninja Gaiden 4, developed by Team Ninja and PlatinumGames, got a deep dive into its difficulty settings. The game keeps the series’ challenging gameplay but adds a new hero mode and training options for newcomers. A standalone training mode – the first in the series – lets players practice their skills before jumping into battle. The game launches October 21 and will be available on Game Pass. Pre-orders are available now and include the Dark Dragon Descendant Yakumo Skin.

Microsoft Flight Simulator received a massive Japan World Update today, adding 23 new photogrammetry areas covering over 20,000 square kilometers. Major cities like Tokyo, Osaka, Kyoto, Hiroshima, and Sapporo are now included, along with five new detailed airports and 67 new points of interest including Osaka Castle and Fukuoka Tower. The update also includes the NAMC YS-11 aircraft, available in the marketplace for $19.99.

Age of Mythology’s Japan-inspired Heavenly Spear expansion launches September 30, featuring a 12-mission campaign set in Japan with new gods and monsters. The story follows Yasuko, a farmer’s daughter who discovers a magical spear and must prevent warlord Kagemasa from imprisoning the sun goddess Amaterasu.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 showed Japan-set multiplayer maps developed by Treyarch and Beenox. Toshin takes place in 2035 Tokyo with locations like a cat cafe, karaoke bar, and crashed train. Den is set in the countryside around a Japanese castle converted into a Guild base. The game launches November 14, with early access beta starting October 2 and open beta October 5.

Fallout 76 developers appeared to thank Japanese players for their support of recent updates including The Ghoul Within, Gone Fission, and C.A.M.P. Revamp. They showcased impressive Japanese-made C.A.M.P. builds created by the community.

Partner Game Highlights

Several partner studios brought exciting announcements across different genres:

Square Enix surprise-released Romancing Saga 2: Revenge of the Seven for Xbox, available now on Xbox Series X|S and PC. The remake features updated systems like Glimmers and Formations, plus new additions like Surprise Attack and United Attack. Capcom showed more of Monster Hunter Stories 3: Twisted Reflection, coming March 13, 2026. In a surprise announcement, they also revealed that the first two Monster Hunter Stories games will arrive on Xbox November 14, with pre-orders starting immediately at a limited-time discount.

IO Interactive revealed British actress Gemma Chan (known for ‘Eternals’ and ‘Crazy Rich Asians’) as Selina Tan, MI6’s Head of Tactical Simulation in 007 First Light. They also announced a Bruce Lee-themed mission for Hitman: World of Assassination set in Bangkok’s Himmapan Hotel, available free from September 25 to November 20. Koei Tecmo showcased Fatal Frame II: Crimson Butterfly Remake, featuring enhanced graphics and audio to increase the horror experience. The remake includes improvements to the Camera Obscura and new action elements for battling evil spirits. The game is coming in early 2026.

The world premiere of Gungrave Gore: Blood Heat showcased the action game rebuilt in Unreal Engine 5, featuring enhanced dual-gun combat and a revamped stylish action system.

Other Highlights

The broadcast also featured several smaller but notable games that showcased the diversity of Xbox’s upcoming lineup. Hotel Barcelona from legendary developers Hidetaka “Swery” Suehiro and Goichi “Suda51” Suda releases September 26 with three-player co-op and a PvP invasion system where players can enter others’ games as hostile doppelgangers. Dragon Quest I & II HD Remake revealed Ocean Floor, a completely new underwater area featuring the town of Mersea and new story content with mermaids, with the remake launching October 30.

Double Dragon Revive showed off its Extra Mode with over 50 missions that unlock character-specific episodes, supporting two-player co-op both online and locally when it launches October 23. Winter Burrow, a cozy survival game about a city mouse learning to survive in the wilderness, releases November 12 and will be available on Game Pass. Terminull Brigade featured a Neon Genesis Evangelion crossover and will launch on Game Pass for consoles and PC.

Rhythm Doctor showcased its unique trailer created entirely within the game itself, demonstrating the robust toolset, with the rhythm game launching December 6. Aniimo, a creature-catching action RPG, revealed more of its fascinating creatures and how they interact with each other and their environment. Starsand Island unveiled its first CG trailer highlighting cozy farming and creative building, with hints at multiplayer features.

Project Evilbane showed off four-player co-op action RPG combat, with players already able to try a pre-alpha test through the Xbox Insider Program. Mistfall Hunter introduced Solemn Needles, the game’s second map set in a sacred forest with locations like the Divine Anchor and Witchery Woods. Sudden Strike 5 revealed Xbox-exclusive footage of the World War II strategy game featuring authentic generals and an enhanced Doctrine System, coming in 2026.

Game Pass Gets Stronger

Xbox highlighted Game Pass’s strong 2025 lineup, noting that three of Metacritic’s top five best-reviewed games this year are available on the service: Blue Prince, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, and Hollow Knight: Silksong.

Several games from the show will join Game Pass, including Terminull Brigade, Winter Burrow, and the upcoming Forza Horizon 6. Still coming to Game Pass this year are Keeper, Ninja Gaiden 4, The Outer Worlds 2, and Call of Duty: Black Ops 7.

Hardware and Accessibility

The ROG Xbox Ally handheld will launch October 16, expanding Xbox’s portable gaming options. The devices were playable on the Tokyo Game Show floor, giving attendees hands-on experience with Xbox’s mobile gaming push.

Most games shown support Xbox Play Anywhere, letting players switch between devices seamlessly. This cross-platform approach allows gamers to start playing on console and continue on PC or handheld devices without losing progress.

Special hardware was also announced for Ninja Gaiden 4, including Xbox Design Lab standard and Elite Series 2 controllers inspired by the game’s swords. Master swordsmith Yuya Nakanishi created real versions of Ryu Hayabusa’s Dragon Sword and new protagonist Yakumo’s Takeminakata.
