Alan Wake 2 is leading the lineup of free PlayStation Plus Essential titles for October 2025, arriving on October 7 alongside Cocoon and Goat Simulator 3. Sony Interactive Entertainment revealed the monthly games during Wednesday’s State of Play, giving horror fans and puzzle enthusiasts alike plenty to look forward to.
Alan Wake 2 Returns to the Spotlight

First released in 2023, Alan Wake 2 quickly became one of the year’s Game of the Year nominees. The horror adventure continues the story of the troubled writer from 2010’s Alan Wake. At the same time, it introduces a new playable character, FBI Special Agent Saga Anderson.
Developed by Remedy Entertainment, the sequel also expands the studio’s shared universe. Its downloadable content explored deeper connections with titles like Control. As a result, Alan Wake 2 is now regarded as one of the most important horror narratives in modern gaming. Thanks to PlayStation Plus, subscribers can soon revisit the story without paying extra.
Additional October Titles
Besides Alan Wake 2, PlayStation Plus Essential members will also receive two other games in October. Cocoon, Annapurna Interactive’s puzzle hit from 2023, remains a highlight of its genre. Its layered design treats worlds like Matryoshka dolls, and each puzzle builds on this clever idea. Because of this, Cocoon has been widely praised as one of the most memorable puzzle games of recent years.
Meanwhile, Goat Simulator 3 brings a lighter option for players. The comedic sandbox title lets you play as a chaotic goat, drumming up wild antics in every setting. With absurd humor and multiplayer fun, it offers a sharp contrast to the month’s darker and more thoughtful titles.
PlayStation Plus Expands Its Catalog
In addition to October’s Essential lineup, Sony is also expanding its higher subscription tiers. On September 26, The Last of Us Part II and its Remastered edition will join the PlayStation Plus Game Catalog. This release coincides with Naughty Dog’s annual celebration of The Last of Us Day.
Later this year, Premium members can expect several classics. Tekken 3, Soulcalibur III, and Tomb Raider: Anniversary are confirmed additions to the Classics Catalog. Although release dates are not set yet, these games will bring more variety for fans of retro experiences.
Subscription Details
PlayStation Plus Essential is the entry-level tier of Sony’s service. It provides online multiplayer access, a rotating selection of free PS4 and PS5 games, cloud storage, and discounts on PlayStation Store purchases. The plan costs $79.99 (RM376) annually, $24.99 (RM117) for three months, or $9.99 (RM47) monthly.
