Hideo Kojima and Kojima Productions showed off their new animated movie project during the Beyond the Strand presentation. The film is called Death Stranding: Mosquito and takes place in the Death Stranding world. Studio Easter, which worked on the anime series Dandadan, is handling the movie’s backgrounds. Aaron Guzikowski, who wrote scripts for movies like Prisoners and the TV show Raised by Wolves, is writing the story. The animation director for Death Stranding: Mosquito is Hiroshi Miyamoto, who has worked on the Pretty Cure anime series.
The creators shared a short preview of the animation. It shows a man with something strange stuck to his face that has a tentacle-like part coming out of it. In the first part of the clip, he’s swimming in water toward what looks like a human figure. Later, he’s on land during a Timefall, fighting someone wearing a porter suit while still having the weird thing on his face.
Kojima and animation director Hiroshi Miyamoto explained that Mosquito refers to the main character, who has the ability to suck something – though they made it clear it’s not blood. They didn’t give more details, saying viewers will find out later. The film uses hand-drawn lines that are then put together digitally to create the final animation.

This isn’t the only Death Stranding movie in the works. Kojima Productions also shared new information about an upcoming Death Stranding film being made by A24. The presentation also included a new clip from Kojima’s upcoming game called OD. The preview footage shown represents early work on the film, so the final version may look different. No release date has been announced for Death Stranding: Mosquito yet.
