Nintendo and Illumination have officially revealed the title for their upcoming Super Mario Bros. animated film sequel. The movie will be called The Super Mario Galaxy Movie and is set to hit theaters on April 3, 2026 in the United States and many other markets worldwide. Some regions will see the film release throughout April.
The announcement came during a Nintendo Direct presentation on Friday, just ahead of the 40th anniversary of the original Super Mario Bros. video game, which launched on September 13, 1985. The sequel was first announced in 2024.
The film takes its name from Nintendo’s popular video game “Super Mario Galaxy,” which came out in 2007 for the Wii console. During the Nintendo Direct, viewers got a brief teaser showing Mario sleeping under a tree with Princess Peach’s castle visible in the background. The camera then moved up toward space, giving hints about the movie’s setting. The teaser also included quick shots of a Monty Mole digging underground, Cheep Cheeps swimming in a stream, and Toads moving around the castle.
The voice cast from the first Super Mario Bros. Movie will return for the sequel. This includes Chris Pratt as Mario, Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach, Charlie Day as Luigi, Jack Black as Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, and Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek. The Super Mario Galaxy Movie will be produced by Universal and Illumination, continuing their partnership with Nintendo for bringing the beloved video game characters to the big screen.
