Nintendo’s September Nintendo Direct turned out to be one of the company’s most exciting presentations in recent memory. With the Switch 2 already on shelves and major titles like Mario Kart World and Donkey Kong Bananza leading its first year, fans expected big things. The one-hour Direct lived up to the hype, delivering new game reveals, long-awaited remakes, and fresh content for some of Nintendo’s most beloved franchises.
Mario Leads The Way
Mario once again took center stage. Nintendo officially revealed The Super Mario Bros. Galaxy Movie, the sequel to its successful animated film. Alongside the cinematic news, Super Mario Galaxy 2 is finally making its way to the Switch after being left out of the original 3D All Stars collection. Sports fans also have reason to celebrate with Mario Tennis Fever, launching in February with new mechanics and an Adventure mode.
The updates continued with Super Mario Wonder, which will receive a Switch 2 Edition in spring 2026 featuring unique minigames. Finally, a brand-new Yoshi adventure called Yoshi and the Mysterious Book brings a whimsical storybook aesthetic to the series, reminiscent of Woolly World.
Fresh New Titles
The Direct didn’t just focus on familiar faces. Storm Lancers, a stylish roguelite inspired by 80s anime, launched today as a surprise release. Nintendo also introduced Popucom, a colorful third-person shooter that strongly resembles Splatoon. For fans of cosy games, Dinkum was revealed as an Animal Crossing-style sim set in Australia. Another notable return came with Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream, which brings eerily realistic Miis and is set to release in spring 2026.
Third-Party Power
Third-party developers brought plenty of excitement. Nintendo confirmed Mortal Kombat: Legacy Collection, Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade, and Lynked: Banner of the Spark. Hades 2 finally has a release date of September 25, while Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined will arrive on February 5. Horror fans were treated to the reveal of Fatal Frame 2: Crimson Butterfly as a full remake.
Meanwhile, the Switch 2 continues to expand its library with enhanced editions of Stardew Valley, One Piece: Pirate Warriors 4, Human Fall Flat, and Overcooked. Nintendo also made a surprise move by adding the Virtual Boy library to Nintendo Switch Online, bringing a forgotten console back to the spotlight.
Kirby And Hyrule Updates
Kirby fans received some adorable news. New amiibo for Kirby Air Riders are on the way, featuring both Kirby and Waddle Dee with swappable designs. On the Zelda front, Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment now has a confirmed release date of November 6, giving fans another chance to dive into large-scale battles.
Major Franchise Announcements
Several major franchises had headline moments. Metroid Prime 4 finally secured a release date after years of silence, easily one of the most anticipated reveals of the entire showcase. Donkey Kong Bananza is also expanding with DLC set on DK Island, which is available today and introduces Pauline alongside Donkey Kong in a treasure hunt for emeralds.
Pokémon delivered two announcements: Pokopia, a farming-style spin-off featuring Ditto, and an update for Pokémon Legends Z/A, which will receive new Mega Evolutions and paid DLC after launch. Meanwhile, visual novel fans can look forward to a remake of Danganronpa 2 with an added story scenario, and Koei Tecmo revealed Dynasty Warriors Origins for Switch 2 with paid DLC included.
To close the event, Nintendo confirmed that Monster Hunter Stories 3 will launch on March 13 next year. Surprisingly, Resident Evil Requiem is also coming to Switch 2, even if the footage looked slightly strained. Finally, Nintendo dropped the announcement of an all-new Fire Emblem game titled Fortune’s Weave, scheduled for 2026.
