WereBuff Studio has unveiled Kumarn: The Wandering Spirit, a horror adventure inspired by Thai folklore.
The title will launch first on PC via Steam, with console releases planned for the future. Visitors to Gamescom 2025 can try the game at the Thai Pavilion (Hall 3.2 B010 #8).
A Ghostly Journey Through 1970s Thailand

Set in a twisted version of 1970s Thailand, the game follows Kumarn, a lost spirit child separated from his sacred zebra companion, Zeb. Kidnapped by dark forces, Kumarn must navigate surreal versions of Thai landmarks while evading ghosts from ancient myths. These include:
- Mae Nak – the infamous ghost bride
- Krasue – a floating head with trailing organs
- Phi Ta Khon – masked spirits from traditional festivals
Gameplay Focused on Stealth and Puzzles

Kumarn: The Wandering Spirit features six chapters set across temples, graveyards, shrines, and haunted villages. Players will rely on stealth and puzzle-solving to survive, with Zeb offering guidance through hostile areas.
The game uses Unreal Engine to recreate eerie, distorted versions of real-world Thai attractions. Authentic cultural elements are combined with chilling sound design and atmospheric visuals to deliver an unsettling experience.
Minimalist Storytelling, Maximum Atmosphere

Instead of heavy dialogue, the game tells its story through environmental details and haunting ambiance. WereBuff Studio aims to introduce Thai horror traditions to a global audience, blending cultural authenticity with survival horror mechanics.
Play It First at Gamescom 2025
As the studio’s debut title, Kumarn: The Wandering Spirit is already drawing attention for its unique folklore setting. Players can now wishlist the game on Steam and try it at Gamescom 2025 before its official release.
