Bandai Namco has revealed a brand-new fighter, Miary Zo, as the fourth DLC character for Tekken 8 Season 2, making her debut during EVO 2025. The announcement marks a significant milestone for the franchise, introducing a fighter from Madagascar—a first not only for Tekken but for any major fighting game.

Miary Zo Announced at EVO 2025

The reveal came as a surprise during the EVO 2025 broadcast, just before the Top 8 matches. While the spotlight was initially on Armor King, the third DLC fighter of Season 2 who received a full gameplay trailer, Miary Zo made a brief appearance as the fourth and final Season 2 DLC fighter.

Executive Game Director Katsuhiro Harada noted the importance of her inclusion, stating that this is Tekken’s first African character and the first fighter from Madagascar in any fighting game.

Authentic Representation Through Local Research

According to Kohei ‘Nakatsu’ Ikeda, the development team took Miary Zo’s character design very seriously. Developers traveled to Madagascar and engaged with the local fighting game scene, gathering cultural and aesthetic references to inform her design. While her gameplay remains under wraps, her character is said to embody elements inspired by the people and traditions of the island nation.

Ikeda even mentioned that during early development, while Miary Zo was still a secret, he was able to ask locals subtle questions to better understand how to represent her authentically.

Armor King is scheduled to join Tekken 8 on October 16, 2025, as the third DLC character for Season 2. Meanwhile, Miary Zo does not have a confirmed release date yet, but she is expected to arrive in Winter 2025 as the final fighter of the Season 2 lineup.
