Hiroyuki Kobayashi, the producer behind popular games like Devil May Cry and Dragon’s Dogma, is getting ready to announce his new project before 2025 ends. Kobayashi, who now runs his own studio called GPTRACK50 after leaving Capcom, has been working on a mysterious 3D action RPG for several years.
In a recent interview with gaming magazine Famitsu, Kobayashi shared that his team is now recording voices for the game, which shows development is moving forward. He promised earlier this year that he would reveal the game by December, and he plans to keep that promise.

“While I can’t reveal any details yet, everything is going as planned,” Kobayashi said. “We’ve already entered the second half of the year, but rest assured that our studio is already preparing to make the announcement. As for how far development has progressed, we’re about to enter the voice recording phase.”
The game will mix action and RPG elements, but Kobayashi wants to make it clear that this won’t be another Devil May Cry-style game. He specifically calls it an action RPG instead of just an action game to manage fan expectations properly.

“I used to refer to the project as an action game, but there were many people expecting it to be something like Devil May Cry because I’m involved in it,” he explained. “It’s not a good thing to give people the wrong idea of what to expect, so I ended up calling it an action RPG.”
This new project seems quite different from Kobayashi’s previous work. Some of his industry friends have even called it “not Kobayashi-like.” The developer says he wants to create something completely new while keeping the core feel of classic action games.
