Originally released in 2005, School Days is a well-known visual novel that gained widespread attention – largely due to its controversial anime adaptation and infamous ending, which reached a broader audience than the game itself.

Despite several spin-offs and follow-up titles, the original School Days remains the most iconic entry in the franchise. Developed by 0verflow for PC, the story follows high school student Makoto Ito, who becomes romantically involved with one of several potential love interests. The title was groundbreaking at the time for its use of full animation and voice acting – features not commonly seen in visual novels of that era.

Several related titles have since expanded the series:
- Summer Days (2006), a prequel
- Cross Days (2010), a spin-off featuring a new protagonist
- Shiny Days (2012), a remastered version of Summer Days with a new heroine
- Island Days (2014), a Nintendo 3DS title set on a deserted island featuring Makoto and the female cast
An official English release of School Days was published in 2011 by JAST USA.
