SEGA has recently filed new trademarks for their classic title Skies of Arcadia, including its Japanese name Eternal Arcadia. The trademark renewals, filed on January 16 and made public on January 24, 2025, come as the beloved Dreamcast RPG approaches its 25th anniversary.

The air pirate adventure, which first launched on the Dreamcast in 2000 before receiving an enhanced port on GameCube as Skies of Arcadia: Legends in 2002, has maintained a dedicated following despite modest commercial success. The game is particularly remembered for its colorful world, airship battles, and engaging storyline following the adventures of Vyse and his companions.

This trademark renewal emerges during an interesting period for SEGA, as the company is currently in the process of reviving several of its classic franchises, including Jet Set Radio, Shinobi, Golden Axe, Streets of Rage, Crazy Taxi, Virtua Fighter, and Sonic Racing. While previous attempts to expand the Skies of Arcadia series, including a planned PC port and sequel, never materialized, the timing of this trademark renewal coinciding with the game’s 25th anniversary has generated interest within the gaming community.

The franchise’s last notable appearance was through character representation, with protagonist Vyse appearing as a playable character in Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed. In 2020, original developer Kenji Hiruta expressed interest in reviving the RPG series with a new entry, though no official plans have been announced.
