As the curtain falls on 2024’s impressive lineup of JRPGs, 2025 is shaping up to be an equally remarkable year for fans of the genre. From beloved classics getting modern makeovers to fresh entries in long-running series, the upcoming year promises a diverse range of experiences that span traditional turn-based combat to innovative action-based systems.

Here are all of the new JRPGs worth knowing about and their release dates for 2025.

The Trails series is making waves with two significant releases. Trails in the Sky the 1st, a full 3D remake of the 2004 classic, aims to provide a modern entry point to this interconnected saga. Following Estelle and Joshua’s journey across Liberl, this Nintendo Switch exclusive could finally solve the accessibility issues that have long challenged newcomers to the series. Meanwhile, Trails through Daybreak II, releasing February 14th, continues Van Arkride’s story with its hybrid action/turn-based combat system across PS4, PS5, PC, and Switch.

Atelier fans have a particularly exciting year ahead with two mainline entries. Atelier Yumia, launching March 21st, marks a significant departure for the series with its older protagonist and darker storyline. The game introduces expanded base-building features and evolves the series’ real-time combat system. Later in the year, Atelier Resleriana: The Red Alchemist & the White Guardian will follow, though details remain sparse about this second entry.

Monster Hunter Wilds, releasing February 28th for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, returns to the series’ World-style roots. The game introduces speaking hunters, human-like Palicos, and new combat mechanics like “Focus Mode” and “Offset Attacks,” while maintaining all 14 weapon types with significant reworks to several classics.

Classic JRPG fans haven’t been forgotten. Suikoden I & II HD Remaster arrives March 6th with modernized visuals and quality-of-life improvements. Dragon Quest I & II are receiving the HD-2D treatment, following the successful remake of Dragon Quest III. Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition lands March 20th as a Switch exclusive, promising to finally conclude its cliff-hanger ending and introduce 32-player online features.

The Like a Dragon series takes an unexpected turn with Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii (February 21st), featuring fan-favorite Goro Majima in a memory-loss adventure that returns to beat-em-up combat. Rounding out the lineup is The Hundred Line: Last Defence Academy (April 24th), a new strategic JRPG from the creators of Danganronpa and Zero Escape, combining school life with tactical combat.

With this robust lineup spanning remakes, sequels, and original titles, 2025 appears poised to deliver another stellar year for JRPG enthusiasts across all platforms.
