A 14-year-old boy from Kluang, Malaysia, who was reported missing earlier this week, has been safely found, and the cause of his “disappearance” is more amusing than alarming. Utusan Malaysia reported Muhammad Syawal Abdullah had been missing since November 5, after telling his parents he was feeling too unwell to go to school. However, once they weren’t looking, the teen had other plans. He decided to head over to a friend’s house in Kampung Melayu, not for anything too serious, just to play some PS2 games.

It wasn’t until his parents noticed he hadn’t returned home that the alarm bells started ringing. They quickly filed a missing person report, only for Muhammad Syawal to turn up around 3:30 am on November 10 according to Kluang deputy police chief Superintendent Nik Mohd Azmi Husin. It turns out, the boy had been enjoying his time gaming at his friend’s house and had even come back home during the past few days to grab some food and take a shower before heading out again.

He also said that he had returned home during the five days while his parents were not at home to eat and shower before leaving again to his friend’s house, – Nik Mohd Azmi Husin, Kluang Deputy Police Chief

When found, Muhammad Syawal was in good health and there was nothing suspicious about his whereabouts. His mother, relieved but a little amused, promptly withdrew the missing person report. The whole incident has left many shaking their heads, but it’s one of those stories where, at the end of the day, all’s well that ends well—except for perhaps a bit of teasing over the unexpected gaming marathon!
