On October 16, 2024, AirAsia launched a unique collaboration with SEGA, featuring a Sonic the Hedgehog-themed flight as part of their “The Colour of Connection” campaign. Furthermore, the special AirAsia flight D7 170 from Kuala Lumpur to Bangkok showcased a Sonic the Hedgehog livery, bringing together the worlds of travel and gaming in an unprecedented manner.
AirAsia treated passengers on the flight to an immersive Sonic experience, including:
- Sonic-themed decorations and installations at the boarding gate
- Special Sonic keepsakes for all guests
- Exclusive in-flight menu items, such as “Sonic’s Golden Ring Cakes” and “Fizzy Iced Yuzu” drink (priced at MYR 13 per combo)
- Vibrant blue backdrops and Sonic-inspired ambiance throughout the journey
Izal Azlee, Head of IP Development of AirAsia brand co., expressed enthusiasm for the partnership, stating that it fulfills their goal of bringing iconic characters onboard and offering unique experiences to passengers.
Additionally, this collaboration marks a significant step in AirAsia’s efforts to enhance passenger experiences by integrating popular gaming franchises into their services. AirAsia expects the Sonic-themed flight to be part of a broader initiative to create more immersive travel experiences for customers across the region.
Moreover, as the gaming and travel industries continue to explore innovative crossovers, this partnership between AirAsia and SEGA demonstrates the potential for creating unique, themed experiences in air travel.
