Sony has officially announced that the highly anticipated PlayStation 5 (PS5) Pro will be released in Singapore and Malaysia on November 7, 2024 with a Suggested Retail Price (SRP) of SGD 1,069 in Singapore and RM 3,849 in Malaysia.

The upgraded console aims to deliver enhanced gaming experiences with improved graphics and performance. Eager gamers can mark their calendars for September 26, 2024, when pre-orders will begin at participating retailers across both countries.

This new iteration of the PS5 boasts several key improvements over its predecessor. The PS5 Pro features an upgraded GPU with 67% more Compute Units and 28% faster memory, resulting in up to 45% faster rendering for smoother gameplay. Additionally, it offers advanced ray tracing capabilities and introduces PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution, an AI-driven upscaling technology for enhanced image clarity.

The PS5 Pro will come equipped with a 2TB SSD, providing ample storage for next-generation games. It will also include a DualSense wireless controller and a pre-installed copy of Astro’s Playroom.

However, the announcement has sparked controversy among Malaysian gamers, who have taken to online platforms to voice their frustration over the pricing discrepancy between the two countries. The Malaysian price tag is approximately 100 USD higher than its Singaporean counterpart, leading to a flurry of comments and jokes on social media.

Some disgruntled gamers joked that the “price setter must be smoking weed,” while others questioned the rationale behind the price difference, noting that the Malaysian Ringgit is currently performing well against the US Dollar. The situation has even prompted other remarks, with one gamer saying that they “need to find a friend who works in Singapore” to secure a better deal.
