The iconic action RPG series Monster Hunter is marking its 20th anniversary with a special exhibition in Tokyo. The “MONSTER HUNTER 20th ANNIVERSARY – Monster Hunter Grand Exhibition” is set to run from July 19 to September 8, 2024, at the Mori Arts Center Gallery on the 52nd floor of Roppongi Hills Mori Tower.

The exhibition, is open daily from 10:00 AM to 9:00 PM JST, offers fans a comprehensive look at the franchise’s history and an immersive experience into the world of Monster Hunter. The event features several interactive zones and displays designed to appeal to both longtime enthusiasts and newcomers to the series.

Key attractions include:

1. Anniversary Theater: A multi-screen display showcasing footage from past titles, offering a nostalgic journey through the series’ evolution.
2. Weapon Projection: An interactive display allowing visitors to virtually handle life-sized replicas of weapons
3. Armor Interactive Monitor: A touchscreen exhibit featuring 219 different armor sets from throughout the series’ history.
4. Monster AR Experience Zone: Utilizing Meta Quest 3 technology, this area brings 16 iconic monsters to life in augmented reality.
5. Monster Hunter History Zone: A retrospective wall and figurine display chronicling the franchise’s 20-year journey.
6. Attack of Fatalis: An installation recreating the battle against the formidable Fatalis monster.

The Monster Hunter Exhibition Experience

The exhibition offers a well-curated experience that particularly resonates with dedicated Monster Hunter enthusiasts. One standout feature is the Armor Interactive Monitor, which impresses with its comprehensive display of armor sets, including those from earlier games featuring monsters no longer present in modern iterations. The exhibition brings the massive scale of Monster Hunter to life, featuring weapons such as the Fox Sword Kakaru Kumonaki displayed at their true in-game sizes. Visitors can see just how enormous these creatures and weapons really are when standing next to them. Additionally, the exhibit includes a scale model of the Seikret mount, offering fans a preview of this new creature from the upcoming Monster Hunter Wilds.

The AR experience, while somewhat limited in interactivity, provides an unprecedented opportunity to observe the game’s iconic creatures at true-to-life scale. Visitors can appreciate intricate details such as the tiny spikes on Zinogre’s tail or the dust emanating from Gore Magala’s wings.

A themed café and merchandise area complement the event, though the exhibition’s popularity has caused many items to sell out quickly.
