After over 7 years since it was first announced, Nintendo has finally revealed Metroid Prime 4 once again, but now with gameplay.
As part of today’s June 2024 Nintendo Direct, a trailer for the game was revealed at the end of the show – unveiling Samus Aran facing a handful of aliens in first-person gameplay.
Furthermore, Nintendo also unveiled that Metroid Prime 4 is now called Metroid Prime 4: Beyond and is now set to launch sometime in 2025 for the Nintendo Switch.
The game was initially announced to be in development at Nintendo’s 2017 E3 presentation, with Bandai Namco Studios taking the lead.
However, in 2019, Nintendo announced that they were restarting the game’s development from scratch as it was not satisfied with the quality of its initial troubled project.
The original build was never revealed, and the game now is currently in development at Texas-based Nintendo subsidiary Retro Studios, which is the original developers of the franchise – having developed the previous 3 Metroid Prime games, as well as the 2 recent Donkey Kong Country titles.
The first Metroid Prime was first released in 2002 for the Gamecube and was met with universal praise, especially in successfully translating the series’ 2D platform-style gameplay into the third dimension.
