Abyssal Hunter Ulpianus recently escaped the NPC jail and became the latest playable character in the CN version of Arknights but it seems that there is a controversy that happened.

According to X user @WhisperingBolt, a group of fans were apparently unhappy at the Arknights gacha banners for Ulpianus and fan favorite orca kuudere Skadi.
Not of the rates, but rather the naming, as they believed it suggested that both Ulpianus and Skadi had a relationship far beyond commander and subordinate.
The name goes like this. Skadi’s banner was named “Sword of the Raging Tides”, while Ulpianus’s banner was named “Anchor of the Sinking Abyss”.
This led to people somehow associating the word “sword” with the male genitalia and the word “abyss” representing the female genitalia. Suggesting both characters may have a lovely fun time in the deep sea like two dolphins during mating seasons.
No idea how these connections were formed, but this group of fans believed that developers were trying to pair Ulpianus and Skadi as couples, betraying the fans who love Skadi.
As a result, this group of fans were expressing dissatisfaction to the developers but their voices were also met with resistance from normal Arknights players, thus the reason why the drama did not go beyond the CN server.
Anyways, if you are unfamiliar with Arknights, the Abyssal Hunters are rather rad but also sad – they are Aegir-Seaborn hybrid super soldiers created to fight against the Lovecraftian horrors Seaborns.
