During Computex 2024, ASUS unveiled various new technologies to look forward to but the new ROG Ally X is no doubt its biggest highlight.

The ASUS ROG Ally X is the latest iteration of the ROG Ally handheld gaming device, featuring the same AMD Ryzen Z1 Extreme processor, but now with upgraded storage, RAM, battery life, and a redesigned chassis for better ergonomics, cooling, and connectivity.

In terms of its redesigned chassis, the ROG Ally X now spots an all-black design which bolsters its stylishness. At first glance, you may think the Ally X only receives a color change, but in reality, numerous adjustments have been made to its details. The materials resist fingerprints especially at the front, reducing the need for cleaning, especially after long-term use.

Furthermore, the edges of the body on both sides are less sharp compared to the original Ally, now spotting a rounder shape for more comfort when holding it. The angles of the buttons and triggers on the Ally X are also adjusted, making it a lot more comfortable when pressing. The triggers on the original ROG Ally were later, but now the Ally X gave them a slight tilt, rendering them easier to press.

Similarly, the joystick and buttons also received some angle adjustment to make the whole usage closer to the traditional controllers we know and love.

The overall improvements in ergonomics and performance are no doubt amazing, but the most prominent feature of the Ally X worth highlighting is undoubtedly the improved battery. The battery in the ROG Ally X has been upgraded from the original 40WHrs to 80WHrs, which also improves the performance of the Ryzen Z1 Extreme processor, potentially resulting in a smoother gaming experience.

All these add-ons did increase the weight of the device slightly, but it is not really noticeable. Apart from the redesigned chassis and battery life improvements, the ROG Ally X also includes upgrades to various other components such as the memory, which is now 24GB LPDDR5, and the SSD storage has been changed to Type-2280, which offers better compatibility and expandability support.

Overall, early impressions of the ASUS ROG Ally X are positive and the device showed great promise. The Ally X is not the only new technology that ASUS revealed at Computex 2024, as they also introduced a new ROG Zephyrus G16 gaming laptop, the Expert P5 laptop, as well as various new models in its ProArt, Zenbook, Vivobook, and TUF Gaming line.
