Dragon’s Dogma 2 Concurrent Players Peaks Over 200K on Steam Despite Controversy

Concurrent player numbers for Dragon’s Dogma 2 on Steam continue to rise, peaking at over 200K despite recent controversies.

Dragon’s Dogma 2 was recently launched on 22nd March 2024 and was instantly met with controversies, tanking the game’s reviews to mostly negative across the weekend.

Despite this, the concurrent player numbers for Dragon’s Dogma 2 on Steam continue to rise, with the game recently breaking its all-time peak concurrent player numbers with over 200K players.

According to SteamDB, the game is currently placed 5th in the Most Played Games category, with its 24-hour peak overtaking popular multiplayer games such as Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege, Grand Theft Auto V, and Team Fortress 2. The game has also placed 1st in the Most Popular Releases category.

For reference, other recently released popular single-player titles, such as Persona 3 Reload and Like A Dragon: Infinite Wealth only hold a 24-hour concurrent player peak of 45,002 and 46,161 respectively.

Even when compared to Capcom’s single-player titles, Dragon’s Dogma 2 has quickly become their largest single-player release, overtaking other popular titles such as Resident Evil 4 Remake and Devil May Cry 5, which both hold 168,191 and 88,894 24-hour peak player numbers respectively.

When Dragon’s Dogma 2 was first released, the game was met with immense backlash due to having additional microtransactions and more notably, performance issues, even when playing on high-end PCs.

It is worth noting; however, that most items that are listed in the microtransactions are obtainable within the game itself.

Furthermore, microtransactions for the game were revealed to be available before the game was released, as shown in the Deluxe Edition’s description which states that items in the set can also be purchased separately.

Even though discussions about the controversy have been active online, the Steam users’ reviews have quickly ironed out to be currently standing as mixed.
