Capcom has revealed the latest information about their upcoming Kagura Action Strategy game, Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess.

After around 9 months since its initial reveal, the newly revealed information about the game includes story, gameplay, and more! Without further ado, we will begin with:

Story

Mt. Kafuku, home of the Goddess, has suddenly been engulfed by an ominous black substance. Due to this, the once-resplendent mountain and its villagers are thrown into turmoil.

With the twelve masks containing the power of the Goddess stolen, the source of turmoil, the defilement, corrupted the entire mountain.

Now the Maiden Yoshiro and her guardian Soh are on a quest to purge the defilement, by working with the rescued villagers and utilizing the power of the masks. A ritual must be performed to return everything to normal.

Mt Kafuku, the Stained Land

A mountain blessed with abundant nature, where humans and animals lived in harmony.

Peace was stolen when the defilement overtook the land.

Merging Dancing Sword Action and Strategy

Kunitsu Gami: Path of the Goddess mainly runs on the day and night cycle.

During the day, players are tasked with purging the defilement from the villages and positioning villagers in preparation for the battle at night.

At night time, players then need to give orders to the villagers and use dance-like sword techniques to protect the Maiden from the Seethe.

The Seethe

They arrived at night and will target the Maiden with a variety of terrifying attacks. The scene where a large amount of Seethes rush to the Maiden is called Kunitsutsumi.

Game System

The Village Infested with Defilement

The defilement lives off humans and human-built structures. The state where a village is covered by defilement is called Amatsutsumi.

The Defiled Torii Gates That Need to be Purified

Overtaken by the defilement, the Torri gates across the mountainside are now connected to the other world and act as gateways for the Seethe at night.

Guide the Maiden to purge the defilement from the Torii gates and purify the villages.

Day & Night

Day Part 1 – Purge the Defilement and Prepare for the Night

Players can control Soh to explore the villages and prepare for battle before sunset.

As you proceed, you will find villagers who had fallen victim to the defilement. Locate them and free them from its grasp.

Day Part 2 – Repair the Contraptions

Broken contraptions can be found as you explore the villages, and these can be repaired by the carpenter and act as extra protection for the Maiden.

Barriers can stop the Seethe’s attack for a short period of time, while platforms can increase the distance of a long-range attacks.

Day Part 3 – Assign Roles and Positions to Villagers

Assign a variety of roles to the rescued villagers by using the power of the masks to give them the ability to fight.

Different roles have different characteristics, so player must learn them and place the villagers accordingly to better prepare for battle against the Seethe.

Night Part 1 – Soh’s Dancing Sword

As a guardian, Soh must take up his sword and command the villagers. Take down and dispel the Seethes with their dancelike sword techniques.

Night Part 2 – The Ever-Changing Battle Situation

What roles will you assign to the villagers? Where will you place them? Will you trust them to fight off the Seethes? Or will you handle it yourself?

The ever-changing nighttime battleground will constantly test your strategic abilities.

The Festering Seethe

Festering Seethes may lurk in the mountainsides as well, these are powerful enemies that are infused with the power of the stolen masks.

An example would be the Mukadejoro, The Festering Seethe residing in a deep cave, attacking all who dare enter its territory alongside its young.

Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess is slated to release on the Xbox Game Pass, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC via Steam in 2024.
