Toys for Bob, the developers behind Crash Bandicoot 4 are spinning off from Activision and turning into an independent game development studio.
The news was announced through an official blog post, in which the company expressed its excitement about the decision.
“With the same enthusiasm and passion, we believe that now is the time to take the studio and our future games to the next level,” the post reads, “This opportunity allows us to return to our roots of being a small and nimble studio.”
Furthermore, Toys for Bob also announced that they are exploring a possible partnership between their new studio and Microsoft. They mentioned that despite still being in the early days of developing their next new game, the team is excited to make new stories and gameplay experiences.
According to the post, Microsoft and Activision have been extremely supportive of the company’s new direction, and that the Crash Bandicoot developers are confident that they will continue to work closely with them in the future.
Toys for Bob is an American video game developer based in California founded in 1989, the studio was a subsidiary of Crystal Dynamics from 1993 to 2000, before being acquired by Activision in 2005.
The company has created multiple remakes for popular series such as Spyro the Dragon and Crash Bandicoot, with the remake for the former, Spyro Reignited Trilogy, winning Family Title of The Year at the Australian Games Awards in 2018.
