Ready Player One is a movie that takes place in the year 2045 where everything in the world was plunged into desolation turning into slums due to overpopulation, pollution, corruption and climate change. People escape their miserable lives and engage in the virtual reality world called OASIS (Ontologically Anthropocentric Sensory Immersive Simulation). There, you can be anything, anyone and engage in work, education or entertainment.

However, the creator of the game James Halliday had passed on, leaving Easter Eggs with Anorak’s Quest. The first person to find the Easter Eggs will be promised full ownership of OASIS among with other gifts. This has attracted other players to hunt the Easter Eggs known as Gunters. Innovative Online Industries (IOI), the manufacturer of most virtual reality equipment also seeks to gain ownership of OASIS. This lead to an army of players known as Sixers to seek the prize. The first quest which is a vehicle race across an ever-shifting dangerous cityscape has yet to have someone completing it, which led Wade Watts as the first person to make an unexpected discovery.

The movie airing in cinemas on the 29th March 2018 in Malaysia and Singapore will be one to catch if you’re a movie goer. A movie directed by Steven Spielberg is one not to be missed and will be very relatable if you are exposed to games. If you are, then you’ll probably be able to recognize some familiar game characters in the movie!
