Silent Hill: The Short Message, the free-to-play survival horror experience that dropped on 31 January 2024, has reached more than 2 million downloads.
The achievement was shared by Konami on Twitter today, unveiling that Silent Hill: The Short Message has surpassed 2 million downloads within 2 weeks of launch.
The Short Message is a new free-to-play short experience that is now available to download on the PlayStation Store for the PlayStation 5.
It was revealed during the January 2024 State of Play alongside a gameplay trailer for the much anticipated Silent Hill 2 remake by Layers of Fear and The Medium studio Bloober Team.
Initially started out as an experimental project, Silent Hill: The Short Message gave Konami’s less experienced development team to explore various aspects of the horror genre and gain practical experience.
“We also had a lot of people who were relatively new in their career but still loved Silent Hill, and who really wanted to be involved in making a horror game, so we used this as a way for our team to build hands-on experience, too.”
As a means to ensure success, Konami collaborated with HexaDrive, a more experienced and skilled development studio.
In The Short Message, players follow Anita as she travels to a dilapidated apartment complex on the outskirts of town after receiving a call from a friend.
As she explores the eerie abandoned building, she comes face-to-face with a dark truth that she had tried to shut away.
The themes of The Short Message revolve around slander, bullying, and social alienation on online platforms, a prominent issue that is relevant in modern-day society.
