After its latest update which added a new DRM software, Monster Hunter Rise no longer works on the Steam Deck.

Previously utilizing the Denuvo anti-tamper technology, the PC version of Monster Hunter Rise is now using the Enigma Protector DRM after its latest version, the 16.0.2.0 update that was issued yesterday.

Now the implementation of the new DRM in Monster Hunter Rise has been reportedly causing compatibility issues with the Steam Deck hardware, Linux systems, and even some PCs as voiced out by many players in the user review section of the game’s Steam page and on Reddit.

Capcom has acknowledged the issue of Monster Hunter Rise now no longer playable on Steam Deck and announced that it is currently working on issuing a hotfix.

We’re aware of an issue that is currently preventing Monster Hunter Rise from running on Steam Deck after updating to Ver.16.0.2.0.

A hotfix for this issue is planned for release in the very near future. Please stay tuned, and thank you for your patience and understanding.

The issues had also caused the game’s Steam page to be hit with many negative reviews, shifting its usual “Very Positive” review summary to now “Mixed”.

“I love this game, but… Capcom installed post-launch DRM on Jan 22, 2024, and now the game won’t work on Steam Deck. I bought it to play on Steam Deck. They changed it after taking my money. That’s not fair,” reads a review from user Cheebahawk, who had close to 500 hours of playtime on record.

Earlier this month, Capcom implemented Enigma into many of its old catalog of games, sparking controversy among fans as the DRM was reportedly causing performance issues.

The more notable one is Resident Evil Revelations, whose performance issues were severe enough that Capcom was forced to revert the update and remove the DRM.
