The Nintendo Switch 2, or whichever name the successor of the Switch will end up with, is likely launching this year and would be more of an iteration of current hardware, rather than a revolution.

At least according to Dr. Serkan Toto, CEO of Tokyo-based game industry consultancy Kantan Games and industry analyst, who offered his expertise in GamesIndustry.biz’s annual predictions feature for 2024.

“The time is finally here for a Switch successor, even though I can say a “Pro” model actually did exist and certain developers were already working with the dev kit,” said Serkan Toto in his predictions, specifically also noting that a Switch Pro is also in the works.

For starters, he believed that the Switch 2 could launch at $400 this year and is highly likely to adopt the $70 pricing for games similar to the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.

He also noted that the Switch 2 will be more of “an iteration rather than a revolution”.

“Nintendo might add some bells and whistles to the device, but it will be similar to the current Switch.”

“And because there is Pokémon, and Pokémon is associated with handheld gaming, there is no way on earth Nintendo will drop the portability feature for their next big thing.”

Other Predictions and Rumors 

Piers Harding-Rolls, an analyst from Ampere Analysis, also weighed in with his foresight, saying that he expects “the launch of a next-gen Nintendo console, more than likely a Switch 2, towards the end of the year”.

Previously, it was already reported that development kits for Nintendo’s next console had already been distributed to game developers.

Meanwhile, another report suggested that Chinese manufacturer PixArt was working on hardware parts for a new Japanese console set to launch in 2024, heavily implying to be Nintendo Switch 2.

Given that the original Nintendo Switch launched in 2017, nearly 7 years ago, next-generation hardware by the company is expected to launch anytime soon.
