Square Enix has announced the end of service for Fullmetal Alchemist Mobile, an RPG title based on the popular shōnen manga series by Hiromu Arakawa.
In an announcement notice posted on Square Enix’s official website, Fullmetal Alchemist Mobile will end its service on March 29th, 2024, at 1 PM (JST).
Upon announcing the end of service, all in-app purchases that use real-world money like Diamonds and Premium Battle Passes in Fullmetal Alchemist Mobile were ceased immediately.
Players who still have Diamonds in their possession can still continue to use them leading to the end of the service.
After the service has ended, under Japanese law, Square Enix will open a refund window for any unused paid currency.
An announcement was also posted on the game’s official Twitter, noting that the unreleased original story “Shiragane no Gowai” will be made into a voice drama and be released on YouTube on January 5th, 2024.
The development team also left an apology in the announcement, noting that they had worked hard to improve the game’s balance and system following the first anniversary and projects were discussed for the second anniversary.
However, there is difficulty maintaining the team structure to provide more services, thus leading to the difficult decision to end the game’s service.
Fullmetal Alchemist Mobile
The mobile title was initially revealed as one of the many projects for the Fullmetal Alchemist series to celebrate the franchise’s 20th anniversary and was released exclusively in Japan on August 4th, 2022.
Numerous crossover events were notably held for the game throughout its lifespan, including one where characters from Atlus’ Persona 5 Royal were brought into the world of Fullmetal Alchemist.
As of writing, Fullmetal Alchemist Mobile managed to amass a total revenue of over $30 million USD in Japan, with its highest peak during the game’s launch.
However, the game’s revenue had a noticeable decline shortly after its launch, dropping drastically from August 2022 to October 2022.
Garnering total downloads of 1,155,136, Fullmetal Alchemist will have a lifespan of slightly over one and a half years by the time it ends its service in March 2024.
