Sea of Stars Surpassed 4 Million Players Across All Platforms After Winning Game Award Best Indie

Retro turn-based RPG Sea of Stars has surpassed 4 million players across all available platforms and subscription services, announced developer Sabotage Studio just 2 weeks after the game was crowned the Best Indie Game at The Game Awards 2023.

As announced on the official Sabotage Studio website, Sea of Stars had hit a 4 million players milestone in less than 4 months since its release on August 28th, 2023.

Note that the 4 million players do not equate to copies sold as the game is also available for free to subscribers of Xbox Game Pass and PC Game Pass, as well as PlayStation Plus’ Extra and Premium membership.

This is evident as, despite its accolades, the game only sees consistent active players throughout its lifetime on Steam with no noticeable spikes according to SteamDB data with an all-time peak of 8,635.

This means that the players are scattered across all platforms and subscription catalogs, which include PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, Steam, Game Pass, and PlayStation Plus.

Accolades & Recognitions

Aside from winning the Best Indie Game category at The Game Awards 2023, the title also got awarded Best Indie Game at the Golden Joysticks and recognition by the British Academy Film and Television Awards (BAFTA) as one of the best games from 2023.

Sea of Stars is Sabotage Studio’s second title, taking place in the same universe as the studio’s debut The Messenger, and having legendary Chrono Trigger composer Yasunori Mitsuda joining composer Eric W. Brown to create the game’s soundtrack.
