Niantic seems to be cracking down on cheaters and has disabled GPS location spoofing in Monster Hunter Now with the Network Error 6-4 pop-up.

After a patch update on 2 October 2023, many players reported that they were getting Network Error 6-4 in Monster Hunter Now, likely due to the use of GPS faker.

For the uninitiated, GPS location spoofing is an act of using third-party software to mask your location and fake your GPS movement.

This means that, for a location-based game like Monster Hunter Now, players who use GPS location spoofing can play the game without the need to move around.

While the Network Error 6-4 pop-up in Monster Hunter Now is mostly an indicator of poor connection, players who had engaged with GPS spoofing in the last couple of hours have reported that they were receiving the errors whenever they tried to battle a monster.

There were also reports of some users receiving a soft ban where no monsters show up in their game, or no items being collected even after tapping on the gathering points such as mining outcrops, bonepiles, and foliage.

Location spoofing is a common method of cheat that many players would use in location-based games like Monster Hunter Now and Pokémon GO, utilizing the fake GPS to work around their restriction of movement or to get a lead against other players.

As players are reporting receiving errors, it would look like Capcom and Niantic have silently put a stop to the use of location spoofing in Monster Hunter Now in its latest update, which is set to introduce a bunch of events for October 2023.
