Final Fantasy VII Ever Crisis is the latest title to grace the many FFVII spin offs out there, this time being a mobile game. The game combines the compilation of the FFVII media franchise in one neat bundle.

We’re Back In Sector 7, Baby

Final Fantasy VII Ever Crisis retells the existing story that we’ve all come to love, with some sprinkles of new content here and there. That being said, if you’re an avid fan of the 7th entry to the long running series, you can expect some of the most memorable moments be retold on your mobile screen in bite sized chapters through the story mode.

While the pre-rendered cutscense in the game are from the remake, most of the visuals during map exploration uses this unique chibi-like style that pays homage to the classic FFVII low poly models but with a cleaner and sharper look. During combat however, it goes back to using similar assets from FFVII remake.

I personally dig the mixture between the two styles and I’m just overall impressed how well the game can run and how detailed the models look despite it being a mobile game.

Materia Buster

The combat in FFVII Ever Crisis doesn’t follow the action combat from the remake, it follows the original title of turn-based action while reintroducing the Active Time Battle system that lets your characters interrupt the opponent’s turn to cast skills and magic.

Casting skills and magic will require a per-requisite cost from a meter that’s present on the bottom of the screen, just above your skill icons. An example being that casting Blizzard will require 3 bars.

One feature that’s pretty unique in Ever Crisis is the stance change mechanic where you can swap between Attack and Defense stance of your party members. As the name would imply, being in Attack stance will increase your overall damage output, whereas with Defense stance will have you receive less damage from physical and magical attacks while also increasing healing output.

Limit Breaks are back and it essentially acts as your “Ultimate” ability in like most gacha games. The Limit Break can be activated once a character’s yellow gauge is charged up and performing Limit Breaks on multiple characters at the same time will increase the overall damage output.

The elemental system is back in this game as well, and each enemy as their own elemental weakness. Using the right elemental spells on the right enemies will be key in winning battles.

Gacha

Instead of pulling for characters, you’ll be pulling for weapons in Ever Crisis. It takes 1,500 Red Crystals (Premium Currency) to do a 10 pull. The rates for getting a 5 star weapon is 7.5%m which is considerably high, but the catch here is to get a specific weapon, the rates are considerably lower depending on the banner.

There’s also a wish list system where you get to add specific weapons from the pool of weapons to get an increased rate when pulling.

Final Thoughts 

Final Fantasy VII Ever Crisis is an enjoyable game where veteran fans can relive the world of the original game, and for new players to be introduced to a classic title. However, not all players can experience the game considering how the game is only available in specific regions, so you better prepare a VPN if you want to play the game.
