The HUAWEI MediaPad M3 Lite is a tablet that was developed based on its predecessor, the HUAWEI MediaPad M3. Just as its name states, the Lite version is smaller, lighter and cheaper but not as powerful as the M3. If you’re looking for a tablet or planning to change your old one but have a tight budget, this could be your choice of preference.

The Lite Shows

We were happy to receive the tablet for our review thanks to HUAWEI. Our first impression on the tablet first hand was the smooth surface on the back of the tablet. If you are not careful enough, you might fumble it off your hands. It is best to have a cover over the tablet for a better grip. For an 8-inch tablet, it can support up to 1920×1200 pixels compared to 8.4-inch at 2560×1600 pixels on the M3. 0.4 inch smaller and lower resolution but it’s hardly noticeable on an 8-inch screen.

The screen is bright and crisp which is easy on the eyes; perfect for reading and watching videos. With Harman Kardon stereo on both ends of the device – top and bottom, it provides an amazing sound experience for watching movies or videos. However the battery life on the tablet is smaller than the M3. At 4800 mAH on a tablet, it does drain a little faster while you are binge watching your favorite shows. Playing games on it won’t do the battery any good as well. Though with an Adreno 505, the tablet can play some casual light games to some pretty heavy ones.

The Lite In Action

The tablet comes with a 32GB memory and 3GB of RAM which is okay for a mid-ranged tablet such as this. Running on a Qualcomm MSM8940 Snapdragon 435, it is good enough for casual every day use while you are out either waiting for your child or a spouse for any occasion. While on the brighter side, both front and back cameras are 8MP which can take pretty good pictures. On another note, the M3 Lite comes with Android 7.0 Nougat rather than Android 6.0 Marshmallow on the M3 which is an upgrade.

At the price of RM 999.00 for the M3 Lite compared to RM 1699.00 for the M3, the M3 Lite is more suited for casual everyday uses. The tablet can still be used for more than your casual use but due to the battery’s life, you may need to constantly charge it or have your power bank with you at all times. Other than that, for the price and specs of a mid-ranged tablet, it is worth the cash.
