It is going to be a new era for Genshin Impact as HoYoverse just had its preview livestream, giving us a sneak peek into what is to come in the version 4.0 update “As Light Rain Falls Without Reason”.
Without further ado, let’s take a glimpse into Genshin Impact’s version 4.0 update, the new region Fontaine, and many other patch highlights.
Fontaine
Arguably the biggest takeaway in this livestream is that players will finally be able to visit the nation of Hydro and Innovation, Fontaine.
Of course, with the introduction of a whole new region means an update to the main story. When the update goes live, players will be able participate in the continuation of the Archon Quest with Chapter IV Felis Fuscus Act I “Prelude of Blancheur and Noirceur” and Act II “As Light Rain Falls Without Reason”.
Players who have yet to catch up with the Archon Quest need not worry about not being able to explore Fontaine, as the region will be accessible after completing Prologue: Act III – Song of the Dragon and Freedom.

Banner – Phase 1
The Phase 1 Event Wish banner features the twins, 5★ Lyney and 4★ Lynette, as well as the rerun of the ever-so-elegant Yelan.
Banner – Phase 2
The Phase 2 Event Wish banner will feature the rerun of Geo Archon, Zhongli, and Fatui Harbinger, Tartaglia, as well as the new 4★ Freminet.
In the livestream, HoYoverse also revealed a unique mechanic exclusively for Fontaine characters known as the Arkhe type.
The Arkhe type is based on the vision frames the Fontainians use and it’s split into either Ousia or Pneuma. When Ousia-aligned energy meets Pneuma-aligned energy, an Annihilation reaction will be triggered which generates energy.
Players will then use this knowledge to interact with the environment in Fontaine to solve puzzles or trigger effects during combat, especially against Clockwork Meka.
New Weapons
5★ Bow – The First Great Magic
New Forgeable Weapons from the Fontaine blacksmiths.
New Battle Pass Weapons to go alongside the existing ones.
Fleuve Cendre Ferryman 4★ Sword that is obtainable through fishing in Fontaine.
New Artifacts
New Artifact sets, Golden Troupe and Marechaussee Hunter will also be available when the patch goes live.
Underwater Exploration
From the livestream, we know that the anticipated underwater exploration that will be added to version 4.0 will not feature an oxygen bar but instead, players will use stamina.
Players can also use currents in bodies of water to propel forward, speeding up their swimming speed.
There will also be cubes of water bodies scattered around the sky of Fontaine where players can explore, and additionally, lands underwater that players can walk on.
The underwater segment will also have its own independent combat system different from the regular action combat of Genshin Impact.
To engage in combat, players can absorb abilities from various Fontemer Aberrants to battle enemies or solve puzzles. For example, you can absorb from a Fontemer Aberrant known as Armored Crab to obtain a shield effect, and so on.

Icewind Suite, a Meka pair that is made up of two pieces, Dirge of Coppelia and Nemesis of Coppelius. They will utilize the element of Cryo and Anemo.
Emperor of Fire and Iron, an ancient ruler of the Fontemer Aberrants.
New Events
Mega Meka Melee, which will feature a free 4★ Bennett, who is an amazing support character to have.

Quality-Of-Life Update
After the Version 4.0 update, the game will implement a new multi-layered minimap that shows different terrain elevations.
Additionally, the character selection screen and party setup screen will become lively as ever as each character will now have unique animations as you select them.
They will also pose alongside allies when lining on the party setup screen and the background can also be changed and customized.
