Suletta and Miorine Being Married Is “Open To Interpretation”, Says Bandai Namco Entertainment Amid Witch From Mercury Row

Bandai Namco Entertainment has seemingly retconned the ending for Gundam: The Witch From Mercury, saying that whether or not Suletta and Miorine are married is “open to interpretation”.

This follows a row in which the magazine Gundam Ace had published an article mentioning the characters Suletta and Miorine, referring to them as being married by the time of the show’s post-timeskip epilogue.

Following fans both celebrating and decrying the girls’ wedding, Bandai Namco Entertainment published their own statement saying that that line was never approved.

“In the article in question, there was a sentence based on speculation by the Gundam Ace editor, and despite our request for correction during proofreading, the correction was not reflected in the article and it was not completed, resulting in its release on July 26”, the statement reads .

They also said that the ending was meant to be ambiguous, despite the fact that Eri, Suletta’s sister is described as Miorine’s Sister-in-law in the ending.

“We would like to leave the work to the interpretation of each and every one of you who has viewed the book, and would like you to enjoy the work. After consulting with the Gundam Ace editorial staff, the descriptions in the electronic version that could be corrected were corrected as originally requested and are now being distributed”, they said.

Fans have since been expressing their frustration on social media, seeing the move as backing down to pander to anti-LGBT groups.

In typical sardonic internet fashion, they’ve also been poking fun at the “open to interpretation” part, editing scenes with the quote instead.
