Gundam Gunpla Scanner Will Support Custom Builds, Koji Fujiwara Says

Chief Gundam Officer Koji Fujiwara has revealed more details about the upcoming Gunpla scanner app, such as its support for custom builds.

As part of today’s Gundam Conference, he reassured those concerned that the Gunpla Scanner would only work with straight-built kits.

“We will let fans scan the customized gunpla. That part of the tech is already developed to a certain extent”, he says. “We also want to include other parameters, which is something we are researching right now. I think our fans will enjoy displaying their custom Gunpla in the metaverse”.

He also updated us on another vital piece of information: they plan to have scanners in custom cabinets, similar to the trial one had at a prior event.

“We are planning to set up specialized cabinets. We haven’t decided where. The details will follow. But that should provide high quality scanning for our users”.

It should be noted that they’ve also repeatedly shown that it would also work with smartphones, though it stands to reason the booths might give better quality scanes.

The Gunpla scanner is a huge building block of the Gundam Metaverse Project, allowing builders to show off 3d models based on their custom work.

They also announced today that they would be opening tests for the Gunpla colony, though it’s unsure if it will launch with the scanning feature considering the short timeframe.

Last year’s Gundam Conference also saw the announcement of the additional “colonies”, branches representing the other popular modes of the Gundam IP, such as a gaming colony based on Gundam Evolution.
